Abstract

The article discusses V.V. Sigarev's remake of Leo Tolstoy's novel "Anna Karenina". The title of the playwright's play shifts Tolstoy's point of view to the characters: Sigarev focuses on the psychological side of Alexey Karenin's image, which is revealed in his relationship with Anna, Seryozha and Lidia Ivanovna. In the play, Karenin appears weak, misunderstood by his loved ones, lonely, old, but at the same time capable of forgiving betrayal, finding the strength to live for children. Sigarev shows Karenin not as a statesman, dry and indifferent, but as a deeply suffering, self-pitying character.
