Abstract

The nature and levels of realization of the value system in an artistic work are discussed. A new approach is proposed that demonstrates that aesthetic value has a similar form of realization as the process of comprehending meaning. Based on this, several properties are identified that bring the categories of meaning and value closer together, such as orientation to meeting, potentiality, intersubjectivity, and interdependence. The author identifies the area of differentiation between these categories, which lies in their ontologization and stems from the nature of "concealing" meaning and the inability to fully understand it, while value is "open" to full perception. Theoretical conclusions are illustrated through the analysis of L.N. Tolstoy's work "The Devil". The article examines the value systems of the characters in the story, their impact on the axiological framework of the embodied subject, and on the process of understanding the meaning of Tolstoy's work.
