COCA, Synonym, Register, Collocation, Semantic prosody.

As an important part of English vocabulary, synonyms are of great significance to English learners. The differentiation and analysis of synonyms is a key and difficult point in English learning, and accurately grasping the meaning of synonyms is of great significance for maritime English learners. In this paper, COCA was chosen as the research tool and the synonyms “ship” and “boat” as the research objects, and compared them in real contexts from three aspects: register, collocation, and semantic prosody, so as to improve learners’ ability in synonyms recognition and to help them in vocabulary learning of marine translation.
